Police arrests Fulani herdsmen with AK49 rifle

Three Fulani herdsmen have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for attempted murder and unlawful possession of an AK-49 rifle.
The suspects’ names were identified as Mohammed Bello (40), Muhammed Momoh (30) and Yisau Umoru (18).
It was gathered that they were arrested following information received by the police that one Ige Orisade was attacked and injured by the herdsmen.
The victim was reportedly attacked on his farm at Oke-Odo, Oja-Odan, when he confronted the suspects to know the reason they allowed their cattle to graze on his farm, destroying his farm crops in the process.
The state Police Public Relations, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said an argument ensued between the farmer and the herdsmen, adding that the herdsmen subsequently attacked him with machetes and escaped.
Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said, “On the strength of this information, the Area Commander, Ilaro, Titus Musa, dispatched a team of policemen to the scene and the bush was thoroughly combed in conjunction with local vigilance group.
“At the end of the search, the three herdsmen were arrested.
The items recovered from the suspects are one AK-49 rifle, with serial number, 513; 49 live ammunition, 26 live cartridges and two machetes.
He said efforts were on to apprehend other suspects.
The PPRO said the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had ordered immediate transfer of the suspects from the division to the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad for further investigation.
