JAMB LATEST UPDATE ABOUT ADMISSION AND INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES AND INSTITUTIONS

JAMB urges institutions to update post-UTME candidates’ lists

Bwari (Abuja) – The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Thursday urged all institutions preparing for post-UTME and other processes leading to admissions to update their candidates’ list from the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS).

The board’s Head of Media, Dr Fabian Benjamin, made the call in an interview in Abuja.
He said that the update was necessary to ensure that all candidates who made recent changes in their choice of institutions were properly captured.

Benjamin said that the board had received complaints from candidates who had made changes but could not register for the 2018 post-UTME in the new institutions they chose because their details did not reflect on the portal of the institutions.

The update, he explained, was necessary and if not done, changes made by prospective candidates would not be reflected.

“These changes have been reflected on the CAPS portal, but the institutions have not updated their lists, hence, candidates are not able to register for the post-UTME.

“Most of these institutions are still holding unto what was made available to them at the policy meeting in June.

CAPS empower candidates to make changes to programmes and institutions of their choice at anytime except where institutions request the board to block its page to enable it to prepare for the conduct of its post-UTME.

“For ease of management of candidates, institutions make requests to the Board to prevent candidates from choosing them at certain periods closer to the conduct of their post-UTME.

“This is because some candidates may still make changes in the morning of the exercise or even during the conduct thereby constituting serious challenges to managing the exercise.

“We are appealing to all institutions to quickly update their lists now to save these candidates from the trauma of coming to the board to complain.”

Benjamin said that changes made by candidates automatically reflect on the CAPS portal but would take the continuous update or download of the lists by the various institutions to reflect on the schools’ portal.

He said that the update, if not made, would continue to appear only on JAMB’s portal but not on the portal of such institution(s).

According to him, the aim of CAPS will be achieved only if all institutions consistently effect the updates.

NAN recalls that leaders of institutions at the board’s policy meeting in June had agreed that the First Choice Admission Exercise would be conducted between July 2 and Oct. 16.

The Second Choice Admission is scheduled to hold between Oct. 17 and Dec. 17.

No more School Fees: FG declares tuition free at All Federal Universities

According to the Federal Executive Council on Wednesday, no federal university should charge tuition fees. The Minister of State for Education, Anthony Anwuka, stated this while briefing State House correspondents after the cabinet meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Daily Trusts reports that the minister said the council discussed the school fees being charged by various universities “and noted that as of law, no federal university should charge tuition fees.”

Anwuka, also stated that the council understood that some federal universities charged fees per course unit, saying that the government would investigate and make sure it is stopped. The minister said the National Universities Commission had been directed to clarify and update the council on the matter.

“We understand some universities now charge fees per course unit and we are going to make sure that we investigate that properly and make it stop.

“Students can pay other auxiliary fees, but not in excess. Various university councils and management should be able to fix what fees students should pay that is affordable and acceptable to the students. That is the position.

“The federal government does not determine fees for private and state universities. It only takes responsibility for fees paid in the federal universities.”

The council has approved the insurance of provisional licence for the the establishment of Skyline University in Kano, the minister noted

Victor Koreyo, a lecturer at the Department of Ceramics and Glass Technology renounce his Nigerian citizenship for what he called social injustice.

Victor Koreyo, a lecturer at the Department of Ceramics and Glass Technology, Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana, Afikpo, Ebonyi State has declared his intention to renounce his Nigerian citizenship for what he called social injustice.

Koreyo in a letter to President Buhari, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja, said he was demoted for a period of eight years by the management of the institution and urged the President to endorse his request. According to reports, a directive was given by the Federal Government in 2007 directing all lecturers to produce additional qualification relevant to the job they do.  It was gathered that the 7th Governing Council of the institution gave Koreyo two years to produce a foreign institution master degree in Ceramic Science and Engineering or he would be dismissed from service.

Koreyo from Nasarawa State, said that the management of the polytechnic refused to communicate the information to him in written.  He alleged that since 2010 till date, the institutions had refused to approve his application for staff development opportunity because the Igbo constituted principal officers in the school.  He also said that several communications to the institution from the Head of Service of the Federation (HOSF), Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Servicom and host of others, on the issue was in his favour for reinstatement.

He also accused the ministry of Education for allegedly writing a counter-directive letter to the rector to disregard the government directives issued by the HOSF and AGF.  According to him, this is social injustice that is not in line with the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “I love to continue as citizen of this great nation on earth.  “But since I do not have the financial power or connection to challenge the Rector to obey the Federal Government’s directives in my favour, I decided to take this peaceful action.  “I believe this peaceful action and step of honour will prevent the rector from killing me by premeditated frustration of my constitutional rights to social justice as the citizen of Nigeria.  “I have nursed this feeling of suicide to end these eight years of frustration by the Rector and officials of the Akani Ibiam Polytechnic division of tertiary education department of the Federal Ministry of Education.  “And have decided the renunciation of my citizenship by birth will be the best way to peacefully end my quest for social justice at the ministry of education and finally resign from Federal Public Service of Nigeria,” he said.

Latest update about AAU Ekpoma 2018 concerning exam and other Academic related Issues

*AAU Update*

*GST SCAM ALERT! GST SCAM ALERT!! GST SCAM ALERT!!!*
.
*AAUITES DISREGARD EVERY POST OR TEXT MESSAGES ABOUT UPGRADING OF ANY CBE RESULTS.... IT'S A SCAM.*
.
*It has come to the notice of COMRADE STEPHEN IKHANE aka AAU UPDATE that SCAMMERS are busy posting  on Social media about  upgrading of results in the just concluded  GST 101 and GST 102 CBE*
*This has gone viral among 100 level students and Carryover students who wrote GST 101 and 102 CBE*
.
*These scammers claim they work in ICT and General Studies (GST) Division, making the students believe the message is from ICT or GST Division*
.
*Some of these scammers are in various whatssap group chat especially Departmental group chat just to post about upgrading of results, telling students to contact them*
.
*A lady and her friend were defrauded of twelve thousand naira all in the name of upgrading GST results*
.
*These scammers charge 10,000 naira and sometimes 8,000 naira  for each course*
.
*Please, these scammers are impersonating ICT officers and  General Studies (GST) Division, I want to beg if you receive such text message disregard it. It's a scam*
*Be vigilant and be very careful, don't be a prey to scammers*
.
*If you receive any  text message or see a post on any social network that says you should contact them for any upgrade of CBE Results, disregard and ignore it. Don't have a second thought about it at all, it's a big SCAM. Scammers can get students phone numbers anywhere and send them text messages or post on social networks just to defraud them*
.
*Don't give anybody money to upgrade or block GST or any CBE Departmental Courses for you*
.
*I repeat, there are fraudsters who collect money from 100Level Students promising to assist them to upgrade GST 101 and GST 102 CBE Results and their Departmental Courses. This is a criminal act. Be properly guided that should you lose any money as a result of payment to anyone, that is your liability. Please be wise*
.
*My candid advice to those who are perpetrator of this scam or those who are intending to, please desist before the law catch up with you like a flash of lighting*
.
*The University Authorities will not pity any student that's caught in the act*
.
*A WORD IS ENOUGH FOR THE WISE*
.
*Don't risk your Studentship just for peanut (little cash)*
.
*Note, to make AAU the number one State University in Nigeria, is a collective responsibility, remember to play your part.*

WAEC speaks on 2018 exams, use of Computer Based Test platform

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says it will sensitise and train its workforce on key areas of technology deployment in order to improve its operations in 2018.
The council’s Head, National Office (HNO), Mr Olu Adenipekun said the council has organised series of retreats for both management staff and the workforce in preparatory to deploy technology in its operations.
“We have worked hard in sensitising the workforce of the council and prepare their minds because it is one thing for one to strive to do something
“But if the people that drives the system are not attuned psychologically, to doing that all such efforts will be fruitless.
“So, we want to prepare our psyche on the need to sharpen our tools in preparation to move over to a 100 per cent technologically driven WAEC and of course we have done that and we are going full blast,’’ he told NAN.
On the possibility of introducing Computer Based Test (CBT) platform for its examination, Adenipekun said that the CBT was not an examination mode that was limited to any particular examination body.
According to him, WAEC also has a section called the Aptitude Test department that can equally use the CBT platform in conducting examination for candidates.
He, however, said that the main point was that the mandate of WAEC makes it difficult to go the whole hug as it was different from that of other examination bodies like JAMB.
“It will interest you to know that WAEC conducts achievement tests to ascertain the level of achievement of a candidate or student after attending secondary school for a six-year period.
“So, if you want to test knowledge for English Language for instance, we do so without bringing about any complications.
“We are aware of the operational environment. WAEC examination is not a selection test, it is an achievement test and so in doing that, we will have to deploy all facilities available to ensure that we help that particular candidate to prove himself or herself,’’ he said.
The WAEC boss explained that if in a school, a candidate or student had not been exposed to the use of a computer in any form for the six years he had been attending school, it would be unfair to subject such candidate to the CBT platform in an examination.
“So what we are then doing as an organisation and as part of our step forward is to come out and encourage state governors, school owners, communities, individuals and of course the generality of education stakeholders on the need to see how we can encourage secondary schools.
“This, we should do starting from Junior Secondary 1, to see how students can deploy computers in writing their internal examination.
“Once we are able to identify schools that are favourably disposed to this and we are convinced that they can meet our terms, we will start looking in the direction of introducing them to some aspects of our examinations which is the objective questions, which can be done on the CBT platform to start with.
“We have some papers that have three components and others two. Those with two components, objective and essay and for schools that are ready for CBT, we should be able within the next two years to encourage them to present their candidates,’’ Adenipekun said.

JAMB speaks on mock examination

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has said it will conduct its optional mock examination in January.
The board made this disclosure in a statement signed by its Head of Media, Mr Fabian Benjamin and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.
“As we prepare for the 2018 examinations, beginning with the optional mock, we urge candidates to register on time, make clear their choices of institutions, disciplines and examination centres in the process.
“Candidates must note that their first choice can be a College of Education, a university, an Innovation Enterprise Institution, a polytechnic or a monotechnic.
“Others include, the Nigerian Defence Academy or the Police Academy.
“We will conduct a better examination, ensure more transparent admission and make more remittances to the government”, he said.
The board, which described 2017 as year of transformation to success with the support of stakeholders, added that 2017 was its most eventful year so far.
“In 2017, the board conducted one of the most transparent, inclusive and acceptable examinations with the least incidence of malpractices.
“We invested significantly in the development of intellectual structures, examination infrastructure and human human resources.
“This will propel more development in 2018 and put the board in the position to compete favourably with any public institution; globally, be it an examination body or service agency”, he added.
The board also noted that while it had opened its “entire functionality to public participation and scrutiny”, it had been able to adopt some of the suggestions made by the public, which it said, had helped “to build the new JAMB”.
It promised to sustain and make better the entire process in 2018, noting that the success of its Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) portal helped to achieve success.
“Candidates were exposed to the new admission software to check admission excesses and our aim is to ensure that no candidate is unjustly treated.
“The only way to achieve this was to open the process up for everybody to see who is admitted, with what aggregate score, and who is not and why is he or she was not admitted.
“Also, candidates were able to use the CAPS window to monitor admissions into institutions of choice to ensure that they are not cheated”.
“We will continue to do everything possible to support the drive of this administration towards excellence”, he said.

JAMB to register two million for UTME – Registrar

Prof Ishaq Oloyede, Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has said no fewer than 200 million candidates are expected to register for this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME).
Prof Oloyede declared that the examination body returned N7.8 billion to the Federal Government coffers from the proceeds of examination forms sold in 2017.
He stated that the fund was sourced from the N12billion income made during the year.
The JAMB boss disclosed this to reporters at the weekend in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.
He said contrary to the insinuations in some quarters that the board increased the examination fee, which enabled the milestone, the JAMB boss said the agency rather made some reductions in the fee payable for the examination.
Oloyede stated that the agency introduced Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) in the bid to address the imbalance observed in the admission process for the applicants.
Oloyede, a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, said the system involved by the agency is making 90 percent of admission to be based on merit.
He also stated that the board had expanded its facilities by spending N1billion last year, adding that 15,000 centres would be created for prospective UTME candidates this year.
On his stewardship, he said: “It has been very tough but it has also been very rewarding. When we started in 2015 we did not realize we were going into a serious war. Initially we thought it is a call to duty, but when got there we realised it was not going to be easy because of entrenched interest. With capacity and network of such interest if you are not careful one will derail.
“We have conducted the first exams with the new technology in 2017 and now we have started selling the registration forms for 2018 UTME.
