Chelsea have earmarked Manchester United forward Anthony Martial as the ideal replacement for Eden Hazard, claims

Chelsea have earmarked Manchester United forward Anthony Martial as the ideal replacement for Eden Hazard, claims The Times.

Hazard is widely expected to join Real Madrid this summer in a blockbuster deal worth more than £150m and Chelsea will need to sign a replacement.
Chelsea have only signed Jorginho from Napoli this summer and time is running out to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.
The Blues have been heavily linked with a move for United forward Martial all summer and have finally identified the France international as their top candidate to replace Hazard.
Martial has rejected an improved contract from United and his agent has confirmed his client wants to leave Old Trafford after running out of patience with Jose Mourinho.
United are set to trigger their right in Martial’s existing contract to an extra 12 months, which would effectively tie down the 22-year-old until 2020.
While Martial does not feature prominently in Mourinho’s plans, United chief executive Ed Woodward is desperate not to sell the talented Frenchman.
United would be aggrieved to sell Martial to a direct Premier League rival, but German giants Bayern Munich are also ready to move for the starlet.
With Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben both coming to their end of their careers, Bayern need to bolster their wide areas and believe Martial is perfect for the club.
Martial has only started 36 of a possible 76 league matches under Mourinho and his best performances have tended to come from the bench.
In fact, no player scored or assisted more Premier League goals as a substitute than Martial last season (6).

This is as a result of the tussle for leadership at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) - Sports Minister Barrister Solomon Dalung told Amaju Pinnick NFF board to step down Nigeria are now facing the possibility of a ban from the world football governing body FIFA due to the latest row over the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). On Monday, July 2, Nigeria's Sports Minister Barrister Solomon Dalung directed the present Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) board under the leadership of Amaju Pinnick to step down. Dalung made the announcement through his media aide claiming that he has been told by Attorney General of the Federation to tell the NFF to obey the court judgement. It was reported in the media that the Supreme Court in April overturned the election of NFF president Amaju Pinnick who has been in office since September 2014.

He acted due to the announcement of the Sports Minister directing Amaju Pinnick board to obey court's judgement in which will be in Giwa's favor. Should FIFA ban Nigeria, then it means the country's Female Under 20 team will no longer participate in the World Cup in France starting in August. The Super Eagles will also be stopped from playing the qualifiers for the 2019 African Cup of Nations championship

Great Samuel Okwaraji but not many actually know his true story

Millennials have one way or the other heard of the story of the great Samuel Okwaraji but not many actually know his true story
What most people know is; he was a patriotic and legendary football player who died while on the pitch playing which actually is true.
It was a historical yet tragic day on the 12th of August, 1989, at the National Stadium, Lagos, during Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying March with Angola.
A dreadlocked Nigerian midfielder, Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji popularly known as Sam Okwaraji who had a masters in international law from the University of Rome, Okwaraji slumped ten minutes from the end of the match and died from congestive heart failure at the age of 25.
Autopsy showed that Okwaraji who also entered the record books as the fastest scorer, at the 1988 Africa Cup of Nations which was the only edition he featured, had an enlarged heart and high blood pressure.
His team mates who spoke to Sports Village Square, said that the late football legend will always be a hero.
Etim Esin, a Super Eagles player who witnessed the incident said;
“I don’t like remembering the sad incident. It was the worst game in my career. Okwaraji’s death remains one of the greatest shocks I ever got.”
His teammate Austin Eguavoen, who went ahead to become Super Eagles coach said;
“This is not a good episode for me to recount. Remember that apart from Okwaraji, there were some other deaths among the fans. I weep any time I remember August 12″
Here’s to Sam Okwaraji! A legend like no other

World Cup 2018: See How Much FIFA Will Pay Super Eagles After Crashing Out

The Super Eagles of Nigeria and other teams that crashed out on the group stages of the 2018 World Cup will be paid only £6.1 million each by the football governing body, FIFA.

Nigeria would have received £9.1 million if the match against Argentina ended in their favour.

This is because any team eliminated from the round of 16 stage will receive £9.1million.
The World Cup winning team will receive £28 million in prize money from FIFA, with 2nd, 3rd and 4th place teams receiving £21million, £18million and £16million respectively.

This means that for the World Cup winners, each player in the 23 man squad would pocket £1.2million.

The 32 teams were also given £1.1million each to prepare for the tournament.

World Cup: Germany arrive home to angry supporters

Germany national team have started facing the music for their poor outing in Russia as they were held hostage by an army of Germany reporters and photographers just as they landed home on Thursday.

Germany became the third successive champions to be eliminated at the group stage after a shambolic performance in Russia culminating in a 2-0 defeat to Korea Republic in Kazan.
The reporters in their numbers were asking questions just as the team landed at Frankfurt International Airport.
Coach Joachim Low and captain Manuel Neuer were left to face the music as the Germans came to terms with their worst World Cup performance in 80 years.

National newspaper Bild declared the campaign as ‘the biggest disgrace in German World Cup history’.

Jerome Boateng wrote on Instagram: ‘Such a disaster. World Cup 2018 was not what we expected

I’m still angry and disappointed and at the same time I feel sorry for all our fans who supported us in the stadiums

‘Four years ago we were on top of the world – now we’re on the bottom. These are the days in the life of a football player nobody envies you for. But that’s life.

‘All I can say is thank you to our fans that always support us. We will analyse what went wrong and carry on working as we always did. I promise we’ll be back strong!’

An honest tweet was sent from the national team’s official Twitter account the morning after the game, admitting that they deserved to be heading home.

It read: ‘Dear fans, we feel just as disappointed as you. The World Cup only comes around every four years and we expected so much more from us.

‘We’re sorry for not playing like world champions, and as painful as it is, we deserve to be out…’

A follow-up tweet then said: ‘Your support across the globe was incredible. We celebrated together in 2014, but sometimes in football you have to accept defeat and admit that your opponents were better.

‘Congrats to Sweden and Mexico, and of course to South Korea on their win. Thanks to Russia for your hospitality‘

EPL: Mourinho blasts Scholes over Pogba criticism

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, has hit back at Paul Scholes, over his comments over Paul Pogba.
Former United midfielder Scholes, now works as a pundit and recently said Mourinho and the players are “under-performing”, after their 0-0 draw with Southampton.
He also expressed his worry over Pogba’s fitness and attitude.
And, after United returned to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Everton on New Year’s Day, Mourinho responded to Scholes’ comments.
“I think the only thing Paul Scholes does is to criticise. I don’t think he comments, I think he criticises, which is a different thing, but not every one of us has to be phenomenal, like he was as a player.
“He was a phenomenal player, that doesn’t mean that we all have to be phenomenal. Paul (Pogba) tries to do his best all the time. Sometimes he plays very well, sometimes he plays well, and sometimes he does not play so well.
“It is not Paul’s fault that he made much more money than Paul Scholes. It is not Paul Pogba’s fault, it’s just the way football is.
“But I think Scholesy will be in the history like a phenomenal player, not as a pundit. So I prefer to look at him as a phenomenal player who gave so much to the club I am proud to represent and every day I try to do my best.
“If Paul one day decides to be a manager, I wish that he can be 25 per cent as successful as myself, because 50 per cent is 12 and a half silverware, 25 per cent is around six. If he is 25 per cent, he will be quite happy.
“In my mind, Paul Scholes a phenomenal player, one of the best players I have ever seen playing in midfield and he gives so much to my club, I only can thank him for that, because the prestige of this club is based on people like him, so successful here.”

SO SAD! Ex-Arsenal Defender, Emmanuel Eboue Reveals How He Now Sleeps On A Friend’s Floor

Eleven years ago he was lining up to take part in the biggest club match in world football.

During an illustrious seven-year career in the Premier League , he pocketed millions of pounds in wages, lived in a mansion and drove flashy cars.

Now ex-Arsenal defender Emmanuel Eboue spends his days hiding from bailiffs, sometimes sleeps on the floor of a friend’s home, travels by bus and even cleans his clothes by hand because he has no washing machine.

Today, the 34-year-old tells how his staggering riches-to-rags plight has pushed him to the brink of suicide.

“I want God to help me,” he says. “Only he can help take these thoughts from my mind.”

To listen to Eboue open his heart is as harrowing as it is shocking.

He wants to talk openly and honestly in a bid to encourage others going through the same ordeal to open up.

The Sunday Mirror, through its Time To Change campaign, has been battling for the past six years to smash the stigma associated with the mental ill health with which Eboue is now suffering.

At the peak of his career with Arsenal he became a fans’ favourite. He was part of the side that faced Barcelona in the 2006 Champions League final.

Arsenal lost but Eboue remains a cult-hero at the Emirates Stadium, as much for his happy demeanour and his goal celebrations as the ability which saw him help the Ivory Coast reach the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations Final.

That joy, however, has been replaced by tears – and a deep fear of the future.

Eboue, currently unable to play football because of ill-health, says he has been pushed to the brink.
He has:

Lost a bitter divorce battle, with his wife Aurelie awarded all of their assets.

Had to hide from cops and bailiffs after being ordered by a judge to transfer his remaining Enfield home to his wife.

Faced a heartbreaking estrangement from his three kids, who he has not seen since June.

Been grieving after the cancer death of grandfather Amadou Bertin – who raised him – and the loss of his brother N’Dri Serge, killed in a motorbike accident.

It is now three weeks since a deadline passed for Eboue to surrender ownership of the North London home he used to share with Aurelie.

A judge will sign the transfer if Eboue does not do so.

The player and his wife lived there in happier times before Eboue bought a mansion – which Aurelie has now put on the market.

He understands she will rent out the Enfield property.

So Eboue, his belongings in bags, now awaits the knock that will see him ordered to leave at any time.

The worried star said: “I can’t afford the money to continue to have any lawyer or barrister.

"I am in the house but I am scared. Because I don’t know what time the police will come.

“Sometimes I shut off the lights because I don’t want people to know that I am inside. I put everything behind the door.

"My own house. I suffered to buy my house but I am now scared.

“I am not going to sell my clothes or sell what I have. I will fight until the end because it is not fair.”
Eboue has taken a huge fall from the days he netted millions at Arsenal and then more than £1.5million a year at Turkish side Galatasaray.

His dream of a Premier League return with Sunderland evaporated last year, however, after he was hit with a 12-month ban by FIFA after a dispute with a former agent.

Eboue says he was never given guidance to manage his finances.

Insisting his wife looked after most of their affairs, he admits being “naive” with money.

He also claims he was beset by a string of people who gave bad advice and lost him huge sums.

With a limited education, Eboue is paying the price for being unaware of his financial situation. His handful of visits to the bank were with Aurelie.

Eboue even recalls an occasion when bank staff visited him – to sign paperwork – at Arsenal’s training ground.

And he now wants other young African footballers to learn from his mistakes.

He says: “I look back and say ‘Emmanuel, you have been naive... why didn’t you think about that before?’ It is hard.

"Very, very hard. The money I earned, I sent it to my wife for our children.

“In Turkey I earned eight million euros. I sent seven million back home. Whatever she tells me to sign, I sign.

"She is my wife. The problems with FIFA were because of people advising me. People who are supposed to care. But it was because of them FIFA banned me.”

Having surrendered the cars among assets transferred to his wife, Eboue now has an Oyster card and relies on London transport – while doing his best to avoid being recognised.

He splits his time between the Enfield house and the home of a confidante he calls his “sister” – Yasmin Razak.

He often sleeps on a mattress on her living room floor.

But even watching TV – and seeing the likes of former team-mate Thierry Henry as a football pundit – triggers negative thoughts.

He adds: “When I see Thierry I feel happy for him but ashamed of my own situation.

"When I see friends on TV that I played with or against I say to myself ‘I should still be there’. It’s hard to watch them.”

Both Yasmin and another close pal, ex-Portsmouth and Newcastle striker Lomana Lua Lua, have been crucial in helping Eboue stay afloat.

Of Yasmin, he said: “I call her house The Bunker. I can hide there. She has children. I don’t want to disturb them, so I sleep on the floor.”

Eboue is devastated at spending Christmas apart from his own kids, daughters Clara, 14, and Maeva, 12, and son Mathis, nine.

He goes on: “It hurts me a lot. They used to call me. But now, no contact. It pains me to be alone without them.”

Eboue has been left without so much as a washing machine.

But he won’t be beaten, saying: “Every day I wash my jeans, my clothes, everything. My hands are hard. As though I have been working on a farm.

“I thank my grandmother because she taught me to wash, cook, clean, everything as a young man.

“I continue to thank God. I have my life. I didn’t want what has happened. I don’t wish it on anybody.”

While Eboue wants to return to playing one day, he would jump at the chance of working with former club Arsenal or players’ union the PFA.

He says: “I would accept help from anywhere but if my previous club wants to help me then I would be very, very happy. Maybe I could help the young players?

“The PFA helped me when I had my problems with my agent. If they gave me a job, even if it wasn’t a big, big job.

“Maybe I’d see some of the people I played with or against and I’d feel embarrassed. But I would cope.”
